What is the blood pressure holter or ABPM ?

The Holter Blood Pressure Monitor or ABPM (acronym for "Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring") is a device that measures blood pressure over a 24-hour period. This device detects the presence of cardiac disorders and assesses cardiovascular risks. It also allows to objectively evaluates the effectiveness of the treatments followed.

Painless and not very cumbersome, the ABPM holter is worn by the patient for 24 hours, generally in a normal life setting. The patient can therefore carry out his daily tasks without any discomfort.

How does a MAPA examination take place?

The device is programmed and installed in the practice or department concerned.

The measurement system is constituted of a small device, slightly larger than a smartphone, connected to a cuff positioned on an arm that inflates at intervals set by the doctor. These intervals can range from 5 to 60 minutes. The results of the examination are stored in the box.

In order to make it easier to read the blood pressure values, the patient can hold out his or her arm during the measurement.

The models usually have a tube connecting the device to the cuff: the device is then worn with a shoulder strap or belt. Some models, on the other hand, are integrated directly onto the cuff, which simplifies the fitting of the equipment and reduces the accessories needed for the examination.

As the electronic circuits of the devices are susceptible to shock and moisture, it is advisable to place the case in a protective pouch

What is blood pressure ?

It is expressed in millimetres or centimetres of mercury (Hg), and has two values characterising the two phases during the heartbeat:

- Systolic blood pressure, indicating the maximum pressure reached during contraction;

- The diastolic pressure, characterising the pressure during the relaxation of the heart.

For a healthy adult, it should be around 120/80 mmHg: there may be slight variations in relation to age or sex, but this is not a sign of any disease. Pathological conditions such as hypotension or hypertension are considered to be below 80/50 mmHg inclusive or above 140/90 mmHg.

Blood pressure also varies during the day and according to the activities performed, so a single measurement would not be representative of the patient's health status, because it could be distorted by external factors. A measurement taken by a doctor in the office may also be distorted if the patient is stressed. This is known as the white coat effect

Which measurement method ?

In the case of ABPM or electronic blood pressure monitors, the measurement is obtained by the oscillometric method : the device automatically inflates the cuff, a pressure sensor is then used to record the values of interest and the values are displayed using a calculation algorithm specific to each manufacturer.

Our blood pressure monitors or ABPM :

On our site, you will find blood pressure holters capable of measuring blood pressure over long intervals, allowing you to best assess the health status of your patients.

Resistant, high-performance and high-quality devices from leading brands in the market such as Spacelabs, SunTech Medical, Microlife, IEM and Cardioline.

These compact and lightweight Holters benefit from many features including : LCD or OLED screens for clear and legible viewing of the results displayed. They are supplied with USB cables and software, allowing data to be exported to the PC and processed.

In addition to their large internal memory, ABPMs can export reports in PDF, XML and JPG formats. Some models can transfer records in as little as 5 seconds.

Clinically validated, the devices sold on our site have a guarantee valid for 1 or 2 years depending on the model.
